Lafayette woman killed by driver who failed to yield at left turn

A 75-year-old woman was killed today after a driver failed to yield at a left turn and crashed into her vehicle.

The Lafayette Police Department reports that the incident occurred at roughly 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5. We’re told a Buick sedan turned left from Ambassador Caffery Parkway onto Settlers Trace Boulevard, and crashed into an oncoming vehicle.

Carolyn Ward was a passenger in the vehicle that was hit. She was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries, where she was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle Ward was a passenger in survived the crash and did not have any reported injuries. The driver and passenger in the vehicle that caused the crash reported having minor injuries.

The driver who caused the crash was issued a citation for Failure to Yield While Turning Left at an Intersection.

The crash remains under investigation.
