ORANGE BEACH, AL (NBC33) — The 17-year-old from Lafayette who fell from a balcony while vacationing with his family in Alabama died as a result of his injuries.
The incident happened on Tuesday, August 6 at the Tidewater condominiums Orange Beach. We’re told two bystanders found the boy on the ground. Investigators believe he fell from the fifth floor balcony.
"The victim's mother and other family members were here with the victim,” Kristina Roberts, Orange Beach Police Department, said. “It is unknown at this time if alcohol played any role in the fall."
The teen was airlifted to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Pensacola, Florida, where he later died as a result of his injuries.
“The investigation hasn’t revealed anything so far,” Assistance Chief Greg Duck, Orange Beach Police Department, said. “We’re working to try and find any video evidence of what happened and we’re waiting on results back from the medical examiners office in Florida.”
This is the second incident involving a Louisiana teen that the Orange Beach Police Department has investigated. On Friday, July 19, Challenger Talbot, 18, fell from the 16th floor balcony of the Turquoise Place condominiums. He landed in the pool and was pronounced dead at the scene.
In that investigation officials classified the death as accidental.
“We’re concerned of course,” Assistant Chief Duck said. “This coincidence that the two are from Louisiana could be explained simply because we have a lot of visitors from the Louisiana area.”
Officials say this recent case is still under investigation. So far there are no indications of foul play.
