DENHAM SPRINGS, LA — The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced that La. 1030 (Cockerham Road) in Denham Springs will be closed to traffic between Anderson Drive and Meadow Wood Boulevard from Monday, July 8, to Sunday, July 21, to allow crews to construct a center turn lane.
The work is part of a $3.3 million project to resurface the 1.6-mile segment of La. 1030 (Cockerham Road) from La. 16 to La. 1026 (Lockhart Road) and extend the existing center turn lane to just east of Freshwater Elementary School. The project will also add sidewalks on both sides of the roadway from La. 16 to Freshwater Elementary School. In addition, safety improvements are being added to the roadway and include installing reflectors to improve nighttime visibility, adding a right turn lane at La. 16, installing “intersection ahead” signs and clearing trees to improve sight distance. Work on the project began in October 2012 and is scheduled to be complete in summer 2014.
Residents in the area will have access to their homes while the closure is in place. The detour to access “The Willows” neighborhood is La. 1026 (Lockhart Road) to Gene Buckel Avenue to Fairway View Drive to Weeping Willow Drive.
Drivers can also use La. 1030 (Cockerham Road) to La. 16 (Range Avenue) to La. 1026 (Lockhart Road) to La. 1030 (Cockerham Road) to avoid the construction zone.
