As an increasing number of young Americans lead sedentary lifestyles, the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Baton Rouge plays an integral role in combating obesity, deterring drug and alcohol abuse, and reducing premature sexual activity by helping young people make healthy lifestyle choices.
“The problems young people face today are very different from the ones their parents and grandparents faced,” noted Pat Van Burkleo, president and chief professional officer, Boys & Girls Club of Greater Baton Rouge. “As a trusted community partner, we are responsible for our kids – their successes and failures alike – and it is our collective responsibility to equip them with the skills and motivation to reach their full potential.”
The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Baton Rouge is one of more than 4,000 Clubs around the country helping to make a positive impact on the lives of millions of young people.
“One of Whole Foods Market’s Core Values is caring about our communities and environment,” noted Kristina Bradford, Louisiana community and media relations coordinator. “This project is a great way for guests to connect with youth throughout the area and provide them with the tools to begin a path toward activity and make better, healthier choices. We’re grateful to the Baton Rouge Area Sports Foundation for helping us coordinate the drive and partner with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Baton Rouge.”
