Keep Louisiana Beautiful urges cleanliness on the July 4th weekend
Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — As residents get ready for backyard barbecues this weekend, Keep Louisiana Beautiful wants you to do your part to stay ecofriendly.
The organization says last year the state spent up to 40 million tax dollars cleaning up litter.
They say littering is down this year because of all the pictures sent in to their Facebook page.
Whitney Breaux, spokeswoman for Keep Louisiana Beautiful, has several easy tips to cut litter this weekend.
"Make sure you pick up the fireworks material after you've exploded things and seen the beautiful fireworks displays. Then, of course, clean up after your barbecue,” stated Breaux. Just really keep in mind how you're throwing and disposing of the things you're using this 4th of July."
Keep Louisiana Beautiful awarded over $200,000 to organizations and schools so far this year for litter abatement and waste reduction.
