Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — The economy in Baton Rouge is consistently growing, and now, the Capitol City is taking a step into the plastics field.
Katoen Natie, a plastic storage and packaging facility, will be built here in Baton Rouge, creating over 100 jobs directly and a few hundred more indirectly.
In addition to the millions of square feet of warehouse space, they will have direct access to two railways to transport their products throughout the country.
State officials say this is another example of how Baton Rouge's economy is heading in the right direction.
"Our economy is outperforming both the southern and national economies, and companies are taking notice and becoming interested in coming here and creating jobs for our people," stated Governor Bobby Jindal.
"We’re not through yet,” promised Mayor Kip Holden. “We will have more announcements coming in the future, and with the partnership with the Governor’s Office, the sky is the limit."
Katoen Natie bought the land ten years ago and finally has plans to start construction. Their facility is expected to be completed in 2018.
