Governor Bobby Jindal announced that the City of Winnfield has been approved for a $1.5 million loan for water system infrastructure improvements from the state Department of Environmental Quality Clean Water State Revolving Fund.

Governor Jindal said, “This loan will fund key water system improvements that will strengthen Winnfield’s infrastructure and increase the quality of life for our people in this area. Infrastructure investments provide better water systems for our people, cultivate growth and make communities across Louisiana more attractive to companies that want to expand and invest in our state. That’s why we’re supporting Winnfield with this loan – so we can make sure the city has the water resources and infrastructure it needs to thrive. We’ll continue supporting strategic water system improvements throughout our state because they help us continue making Louisiana the best place in the world to live, raise a family and find a rewarding career.”

The DEQ Clean Water State Revolving Fund Loan Program provides loans to local municipalities for vital water infrastructure improvements to ensure safe and clean wastewater infrastructure.

The Governor said the loan will fund three key wastewater improvement projects and construction on the projects will begin this year. The projects include:

o The upgrade and repair of 13 pump stations throughout the city;
o the re-direction and extension of three force water mains to improve pumping capacity and eliminate overflows on Dunn Street, North Street and Turpentine Street; and
o the rehabilitation of sewer gravity pipes.

Representative Jim Fannin said, “These water improvements will help Winnfield continue to be what it is known for – a great place to live and work and a great place for our children to grow up. These improvements will strengthen our infrastructure for years to come and keep Winnfield moving forward.”

Winnfield Mayor B.R. Audirsch said, “This money will enable the city to update and prolong the life of all our lift stations and reduce the amount of rain water going into our collection system. The money will also help in lining our concrete collection pipes, thus saving money for the city in the long run.”
