New Orleans, La (NBC33) — A big switch is coming to the Huey P. Long Bridge in New Orleans that will move drivers from the old lanes of the bridge to new ones that just finished being constructed.
The switch is part of a $1 billion widening project.
More than 50,000 drivers use that bridge every day.
"We'll have two lanes - they'll be wider lanes and they'll be safer lanes and we'll also have the interchange at both ends of the project open - and the travelling public will see a very, very significant difference from what they've been used to,” stated contruction program director Steve Spohrer.
The bridge has been around since 1935. Since then, drivers have been using two very narrow lanes to get across that bridge in New Orleans.
