On the morning of April 30, State Troopers investigated a fatal crash on LA Highway 356 east of LA 343 which claimed the life of a Sunset female.

Chastity Nichol, 38, of Sunset, was driving an SUV. As she approached a left curve, she traveled off the right side of the road, crossed a private driveway and struck a tree.

Nichol, who was restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Landry Parish Coroner. Troopers suspect speed was a factor in the crash; they are also working to determine what time the vehicle crashed last night.

It is unknown if Nichol was impaired when the crash occurred; however, routine toxicology samples were obtained and have been submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

This crash remains under investigation.
