POSTED: Friday, June 3, 2011 - 4:55am

UPDATED: Sunday, June 5, 2011 - 12:05am

HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT THIS EVENING...

* TEMPERATURE: SUCCESSIVE DAYS OF RECORD TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER
90S TO NEAR ONE HUNDRED DEGREES AND WARM OVERNIGHT LOWS WILL
RESULT IN HEAT STRESS ISSUES FOR MANY COMMUNITIES IN THE ADVISED
AREA. THESE CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON.

* IMPACTS: THESE HOT TEMPERATURES WILL COMBINE WITH HIGH HUMIDITY
TO RESULT IN HEAT INDEX VALUES OF 104 TO 108 DEGREES THIS
AFTERNOON. LOW TEMPERATURES IN 75 TO 80 DEGREE RANGE THIS
MORNING WILL PROVIDE LITTLE RELIEF FROM THE OPPRESSIVE HEAT.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A HEAT ADVISORY MEANS THAT A PERIOD OF HOT TEMPERATURES IS
EXPECTED. THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY
WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE
POSSIBLE. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS...STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED
ROOM...STAY OUT OF THE SUN...AND CHECK UP ON RELATIVES AND
NEIGHBORS.

PETS CAN ALSO SUCCUMB TO THE EFFECTS OF EXCESSIVE HEAT. INSURE
PETS HAVE ADEQUATE DRINKING WATER AND A SHADY PLACE TO REST. DO
NOT KEEP PETS IN CARS WITH WINDOWS ROLLED UP...EVEN PARTIALLY.
TEMPERATURES INSIDE A CAR WITH THE WINDOWS UP CAN REACH OVER
150 DEGREES QUICKLY...RESULTING IN HEAT STROKE AND DEATH.
