An outreach program to teach children the importance of eating healthy brought in some local talent to cook up its message in Baton Rouge.

Chefs teamed up with Capitol Middle students to demonstrate healthy cooking, eating, and the importance of staying active.

It's all a part of Mayor Kip Holden's Healthy Baton Rouge initiative.

Students sampled some healthy, tasty bites, got a few tips on gardening and learned a few recipes to try at home as well.

“At Capitol Middle School, they have a garden there,” stated Lyndsi Lambert with Healthy BR. “They came here today and learned how to turn that produce into an after-school snack; so now, when they go home and see a banana and orange juice lying around, they can make a smoothie, for example.”

Children got to spend the day at the Red Stick Mobile Farmer's Market, which is open to everyone, and located in the parking lot of Star Hill Church on Foster Drive.
