Greater Baton Rouge State Fair official say fair will be open Sunday
BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Offiicals with The Greater Baton Rouge State Fair issued a response Sunday after a shooting at the fairgrounds Saturday.
Cliff Barton, with The Greater Baton Rouge State Fair said:
"We are deeply saddened by the events of last night. Our hearts are heavy and our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim. "
"It is a shame that the actions of one individual can affect the lives of thousands of people at one time."
"The Greater Baton Rouge State Fair has a basic emergency plan in place which was activated and worked in conjunction with the Deputy Sheriff’s on site, to get the people out of the grounds and off site. These plans are always under review to see what improvements can be made and we will be doing that review in the immediate future. The members of the Sheriff’s Office, First Responders and the Board of Directors all worked together to resolve the situation. The Sheriff’s detained an individual almost immediately and arrested and charged him after further investigation."
"The Fair will open today at our normal time 1pm, for our final day of the 2013 Fair. We are committed to bringing quality family oriented entertainment to the Baton Rouge area and will not let the actions of one individual change that commitment. The 2014 Fair has been scheduled for Oct. 23 to Nov. 2 for some time and will happen."
"We ask that the community pray for the victim and his family as well as the family and person who commited this crime."
