BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — It's been three days since the government shut down, and the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank is starting to feel the impact.
The food bank's outreach program SNAP has been put on hold, and since the shutdown, they can't accept any new applicants .
"Young mothers with children are in need the outreach programs that provide assistance to them,” stated Charlene Montelaro, VP of Philanthropy at GBRFB. “Those are the people who are hurting because of this shutdown, and these outreach programs are critical in providing that need for those people."
Montelaro says the food bank is trying to move forward, but will have difficulties until the shutdown is lifted.
