Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) —
Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne got one on one rub-board lessons from a Grammy winner today as part of a plan to get more tourists to visit Louisiana.
Zydeco artist Chubby Carrier and the lieutenant governor are gearing up for a big show in Memphis.
The Louisiana Office of Tourism and the New Orleans Hornets are hosting a Louisiana-themed block party when the Hornets play the Memphis Grizzlies next week.
Dardenne says playing the rub-board isn't as easy as it looks.
"As Chubby said, we're ‘Chubby and the Almost Can Play Jay Playboys’. I'm not much of a player, but it’s fun to try and it's a privilege to even be playing with Chubby. It’s going to be great in Memphis," said Dardenne.
"My grandfather did it, my father did it, but it didn't go far enough for me, so that's why I wanted to introduce it to the world," stated Carrier.
The performance takes place on Wednesday, April 18 in Memphis. Don't be surprised if the lieutenant governor joins Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band for a few songs.
