BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) — Louisiana ranks 30th in the nation in clean economy jobs. That's according to a report from Brookings Institution. They say there are 28, 6783 clean economy jobs in the state. In Baton Rouge, there are 8, 167 jobs, putting the capitol city at number 63 out of the top 100 cities in the U.S.
While the results of the report may be disappointing, experts say the state is moving in the right direction. More and more companies are going green all the time.
Take, for example, Kleinpeter Dairy. In the last several years, the company has found creative ways to recycle, reuse waste, and save energy. Not only is it beneficial for the environment, but it's also cost effective.
President, Jeff Kleinpeter, estimates the company saves thousands of dollars every year, all from going green. "Why not do things like that to save money for your company forever?" he asks. "The more money we save, let's face it, the lower the cost is of our product."
Experts say the state has made huge strides environmentally over the years. Just recently, Louisiana met all federal air and water quality laws for the first time in history.
