Many drivers in the Capitol Area were expecting it, and now, $4 a gallon gas is here.

NBC33 saw $4.02 a gallon at a small station in Gonzales.

It's about twenty cents higher than the Louisiana average that sits at around $3.80 according to GasBuddy.com.

Drivers we spoke with today say if the prices climb any higher, they'll be forced to make lots of cuts. They say it's something that shouldn't have to happen.

“With the way the economy is and the price of food, it just makes it real hard for families to get by without struggling,” stated concerned driver Dean Causey.

“Absolutely ridiculous… absolutely,” said a frustrated Sharon blades. “I get gas in Greensburg - a little town - cheaper than I can get it in Baton Rouge.”

GasBuddy.com says the average price nationally is around $3.90 a gallon, which is about 15 cents more than it was about a month ago.
