Thursday, November 10, 2011 - 7:39pm

Viewing for former Baker Fire Chief Thomas Woods will be from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Greater Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Baton Rouge. The funeral service will start directly at the end of the viewing.

Howard Ward with the Baker Fire Department says Woods will be deeply missed.

“When you see a person like that who you know had so many years involved with the fire department service and they parish or pass away – there’s a loss in the fire service,” Ward says. “He was a big member of the fire service so he'll be missed and Saturday you'll see a lot firemen, lot of family, lot of friends.”

Woods was the first African American Fire Chief in Baton Rouge and Baker.

Thomas Woods died Tuesday, Nov. 8 of Alzheimer's disease. He was 76-years old.
