Kentwood, La. (NBC 33) — After consistently evading capture and staying just ahead of law enforcement, Kaunda Magee was shot and wounded by police, and captured in Mississippi, just over the louisiana border Wednesday.
For two weeks, law enforcement on every level had taken over the small community of East Fork, waiting on Magee to appear from the woods he was hiding in.
Magee allegedly broke into several homes, tied up one woman, stole at least two vehicles, and shot at police who were on his trail. With him on the loose, those living nearby, were living on edge.
"Been hectic," said Juan Potts, of East Fork. "Everybody around here (is) tense, locked up in the house. I'm glad it's over."
A Louisiana state trooper spotted Magee in an abandoned trailer Wednesday. At some point, police shot him before taking him into custody. He survived and is now recovering in a hospital.
"I just thank god he's in custody," said Jimmie Brumfield, of East Fork. "And still alive, so he can face the consequences for his wrongdoings."
