Free program to focus on web, mobile apps and email for established entrepreneurs

BATON ROUGE, LA — Mayor-President Melvin “Kip” Holden’s Small Business Opportunity Program, will hold a free digital marketing workshop for entrepreneurs on Monday, Feb. 25 at 6:00 p.m. at the Bluebonnet Library Branch, 9200 Bluebonnet Boulevard.
“This will be a workshop on how to expand your small business interactively through the web,” said Business Development Coordinator Stacie Williams. “The program is designed for established entrepreneurs who are seeking additional business tools.
The two-hour workshop entitled “Digital Marketing Strategies for the Future of Business – Web, Mobile Apps, Email” will feature a presentation by Orhan McMillan, managing partner of dezinsInteractive, a local company that specializes in web design, marketing and brand management.

Williams said Monday’s program is the first of five “training education programs” designed to help local established entrepreneurs take their businesses to the “next level.” Other programs in the Next Level Training Education Series, which is co-sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration and SCORE, a nonprofit organization that mentors small businesses, are:
- Monday, March 25 - “OSHA Compliance for the Construction Industry,” featuring Corey S. Gaines, OSHA Consultation Supervisor, Louisiana Workforce Commission.
- Monday, April 29 – “Branding You Business,” featuring Laura Lott Valenti, Marketing Instructor, Nicholls State University.
- Monday, May 20 – “I’m an Entrepreneur – Now What?” featuring Desiree Young, Chief Entepreneurial Officer, Venture Walk.
- Monday, June 24, “Human Resources Strategies,” featuring Yvette Marsh, Director of Talent Management, LSU Foundation.
Williams said the Mayor’s Office also plans to hold a free Small Business Summit on Thursday, June 6, at the Baton Rouge River Center to help local businesses explore possible contracting opportunities with the City-Parish. Representatives from several city-parish departments will be on hand to discuss their processes for procuring goods and services, and to provide information about how small businesses can take advantage of those opportunities. There will also be opportunities to meet one-on-one with city-parish purchasing and procurement managers.
