Fragile X Awareness Day

Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — A young boy in Baton Rouge is diagnosed with a rare disorder, Fragile X syndrome. It’s the only known cause of autism, and researchers think the majority of cases go undiagnosed.
But Logan Kisamore’s mother, Patricia wants to change that. She worked with the National Fragile X Foundation to get Governor Jindal’s support. Jindal declared Friday, Louisiana Fragile X Awareness Day, a first for the state.
Fragile X can be detected on a blood test. It’s a genetic disorder caused by a defect on the X chromosome. For more information on Fragile X and resources for families, go to www.fragilex.org or you can email LAFXgroup@ymail.com.
To talk with Patricia about her experience, email her at pookins@bellsouth.net.
