Former ATC Commissioner Murphy Painter pleads not guilty

Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Murphy Painter has pled not guilty to federal charges.
The former Alcohol and Tobacco Control Commissioner is accused of computer fraud, making false statements and aggravated identity theft.
He faces more than 40 separate federal counts in total.
If convicted, he could get up to 82 years behind bars and have to pay fines of more than $6.5 million. His trial is scheduled to start on July 30.
