BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The Baton Rouge Food Bank needs your help; the shelves are as close to bare as they've been in years.
Now, more than 100,000 in the area don't know where their next meal is coming from.
CEO Mike Manning told NBC33 that the combination of summer vacation season and a large number of distribution events led to the shortage.
The food bank is the center for food donations in an eleven-parish area, which includes almost 40,000 children in the Capital City.
"When we have had summer like this in the past, the community has really stepped up to help us,” stated Manning. “When we have been struggling, they have come through, and we are just asking to come through again."
Manning went on say that the shortage is approaching critical levels.
The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank is located at 5546 Choctaw Drive. For more information call (225) 359-9940 or click here.
