On Friday, November 8, five Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office (PPSO) deputies graduated from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Regional P.O.S.T. Academy in Thibodaux.

Academy session 2013-6 ran from September 16 to November 8. PPSO deputies graduatingwere Chris Blackwell, Danny Fontaine, Brian Green, Leander Jurjevich, and David Morgan. Deputies Blackwell and Green were full-time cadets and deputies Fontaine, Jurjevich and Morgan were refreshers.

Upon successfully completing the upcoming Field Training Officer program, deputies Blackwell, Green, and Morgan will be assigned to the Patrol Division. Deputies Fontaine and Jurjevich are currently assigned to the Reserve Division.

During the graduation ceremony, Deputy Brian Green was recognized with two very special awards: Scholastic Award for being top in his class, and Marksmanship Award for having the highest shooting score.

In addition to the P.O.S.T. required subject areas for certification, deputies received training on ground fighting, emergency vehicle operations course, chemical weapons certification, active shooter training, standardized field sobriety testing, building searches, defensive tactics and Taser certification.

Sheriff Lonnie Greco says, “I congratulate each of you on your commitment, dedication, and hard work in successfully completing the academy. This training will serve as a foundation to your law enforcement career. I wish you much success in the future.”
