A 27-year-old woman died from injuries caused by a traffic crash on the newly opened Central Thruway.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reports that the crash happened at the intersection with South Choctaw Drive on Monday, July 15 at roughly 6:00 p.m. The driver, Jackie Addison, crashed into an 18-wheeler that was turning left.

Addison was transported to a local hospital where she later died as a result of her injuries.

Officials say the 18-wheeler had a green arrow and made a legal turn. At this time, however, they cannot confirm whether Addison ran a red light.

“The report does not note whether or not her light was red,” Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, Baton Rouge Police Department, explained. “It only notes that his light was green.”

The Central Thruway opened to traffic on Thursday, July 11. The day after it opened drivers reported that some traffic lights were not working, while others were not synced up correctly. Crews have worked to resolve those issued.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was injured in the crash and did not receive a citation. We’re told alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this crash.

Officials say the crash is still under investigation.
