The 17 will take a written exam for the position on May 22. Originally 19 people applied for the spot, two of  those original 19 were not approved on or qualified enough to continue on to take the test.

The list includes several candidates from the Baton Rouge Police Department:

  • Carl R. Dabadie Jr.
  • Chad M. King
  • Myron K. Daniels
  • Leo J. Lamotte
  • James G. Drickamer
  • Todd G. Lee
  • Carl K. Dunn
  • Bill D. Press

  • Christopher P. Hagan

The position was left vacant this February when Mayor-President Kip Holden terminated former Chief Dewayne White. A public hearing followed where Holden and his administration upheld their decision to terminate White. White had also filed an appeal with the Baton Rouge Municipal Fire & Police Civil Service Board. The appeal hearing was set for May. Former Chief White withdrew his appeal to the board on Thursday.

"I dismissed my appeal today because, as much as I wish to continue serving the people of this community, I will not and do not ever want to work for this Administration," stated White in a prepared statement.
