Fatal hit-and-run crash involving motorcycle shuts down I-10 in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, LA (NBC33) — A motorcyclist was killed during a crash this afternoon on I-10 in New Orleans. Police say the vehicle responsible fled the scene and they are currently seeking the suspect.
The crash happened shortly after 2:30 p.m. on I-10 near the Louisa Street exit in Gentilly. New Orleans Police report that the motorcyclist was struck while traveling east. Witnesses say the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control for unknown reasons. He then collided with an oncoming 18-wheeler.
Officials say the 18-wheeler did not stop. The 22-year-old motorcyclist was ejected from the bike and landed on the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing at this time. A toxicology test will be performed.
