The family that lost five in a drunk driving crash is working to get more jail time for the man responsible for their deaths.

Baton rouge lawyer Jill Craft is now working with the Gaines family.

Craft told NBC33 news after Brett Gerald's sentence was reduced to just 35 years, she started working with the family.

Gerald filed a motion after he was sentenced to 70 years in prison back in March. His original sentence was 10 years in prison for each of the 7 counts of vehicular homicide.

After winning a motion on May 14, Gerald’s sentence was dropped to 5 years for each count. Gerald will be required to serve a minimum of 85 percent of his new sentence.

Craft said she wants East Feliciana District Attorney Sam D'aquilla to file an appeal to Gerald's sentence.
