Family pet rescued from burning home, estimated $1.5 million in damage

BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A fire destroyed a home worth an estimated $1.5 million. However, due to an act of heroism, a firefighter saved the life of the family cat, which is invaluable.
The Baton Rouge Fire Department responded to the home located on Rue Bienville shortly after 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24. When they arrived at the two-story home, it was completely engulfed with flames shooting out of the roof.
The owner of the home was inside when she noticed the blaze. She and another woman were able to escape unharmed. However, the family cat, which was still located inside when firefighters arrived, had to be rescued.
Investigators are currently working to determine what started the fire. So far they know it began on the back porch.
Officials say the home is a total loss. The home is valued at $1.3 million. The contents make the total estimated value roughly $1.5.
