BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) — Hundreds gathered Saturday, March 10 in the morning to remember Louisiana's fallen firefighters. It was a special day for the families of the seven firefighters who lost their lives this past year in the line of duty. Their names have been added to the Fallen Firefighter Memorial.
The goal of the event is to honor those men and women who put themselves in danger on a daily basis to save lives.
"We have 1,500 firefighters in our state and they respond to over a million emergencies every year, but they respond every time not knowing if that call they go on will be their last call," says State Fire Marshal Butch Browning.
The memorial was created 12 years ago. Since then, 150 names have been added to it.
