A fire at a chemical plant has forced several out of their homes.

According to police, the fire broke out at Monolyte Laboratoy around 2:00 Monday morning. Several explosions were heard in the area.

Slaughter's Mayor Robert Jackson told NBC33 News no one was hurt in the fire, and crews are still on the scene putting out hot spots.

There's no word on what sparked the fire. Monolyte Laboratories has about 20 workers. The Mayor said no one was there when the fire started.

An NBC33 news crew is at the scene. We'll have more information as it becomes available.
