Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Former state representative Ernie Alexander has passed away.

He served in the legislature from 2000 until 2008. He inherited the seat from Mike Michot when Michot moved to the senate.

Alexander died last night from esophageal cancer.

People who worked with him say Alexander was always a gentleman, honest, and moral.

Alexander was 79 years old.
