BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — An early morning fire at Brandywine Apartments caused over $100,000 of damage before it was put out.
The Baton Rouge Fire Department responded to the call on Darryl Drive around 6:00 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 3. By the time they arrived the fire had extended up the wall and into two units directly above the one where it started. Both of those units were unoccupied. The individuals living in the home where the fire started were not harmed.
Investigators believe the fire may have been caused by an electrical malfunction.
All three units sustained significant damage. Much of the walls had to be torn out to prevent the fire from reaching the roof, which could have caused it to spread to even more units within the complex.
The Red Cross is providing assistance to the residents who lost their home.
