Holiday season is just around the corner and that means scam artists are gearing up to grab your cash.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office wants you to be wise with your money.

Scam artists tend to target older people and solo shoppers during the holidays. They say watch out if a person tries to pressure you for a charitable donation - you have the right to say no.

Deputies say if you are going to give a large donation, do you your research first and don't fall for freebies.

"If you are being promised a gift other than a small token - if you're being promised a very large gift in return - that is generally is a good way of recognizing that it's probably fraud,” stated Capt. Tommy Rice with the EBR Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say during the Holidays, undercover officers will hit highly populated shopping areas to help protect shoppers.

If you feel like you've been scammed, they say don't hesitate to call law enforcement.
