Just like in years past, trucks will roll through the streets of East Baton Rouge Parish to provide a symbolic end to the Christmas season, to recycle trees.

Pickups will take place between January 7-20. Trees must be left on the curb, three feet away from any other recycling or trash.

Crews also ask that you make sure to take off all the ornaments and lights on the tree.

"Remove any metal stands, Christmas tree lights, tinsel, ornaments or anything like that that might contaminate," said Bob Dillemuth of the Parish Recycling Office. "This is going to be ground up and processed in to mulch and compost so you remove anything that might contaminate the compost."

Additionally, select BREC parks around the area are also open as sites for tree drop off between now and Monday, January 28. They are:

Independence Park, 7500 Independence Blvd.
Highland Road Park, 14024 Highland Road
Kathy Drive Park, off O’Neal Lane by Team Toyota
Flannery Road Park, 801 S. Flannery Road
Pecue Wood Recycling Facility, 9455 Pecue Lane

LSU is also recycling trees, in the lot across from the veterinary school on Skip Bertman Drive.

Wrapping paper can be disposed of in regular recycling bins, unless it is made of aluminum foil.
