BATON ROUGE, LA — Two early morning fires are reported to have been caused by lightning strikes.
As several bands of rain and thunder storms passed through the area, St. George firefighters were called to two house fires early this morning in subdivisions off Nicholson Drive between Bluebonnet and the Iberville Parish line.
There were no injuries in either fire.
The first was at 4:09 a.m. on Longleaf Ct. in University Club Plantation. The fire was under control at approximately 4:35 a.m.
The second was about three hours later in Lexington Estates subdivision. It was reported at 7:23 a.m. and under control at 7:42 a.m. The homeowner says a passer-by knocked on the front door and told her the house was on fire.
In each instance units arrived to find smoke and fire coming from the peak of the roof. Both fire were quickly extinguished and fire damage was limited to the attic and roof. Tarps were placed on the damaged sections of the roof to prevent further damage from the weather.
