BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — An early morning crash claimed the life of a Baton Rouge man, but investigators are unsure of how, exactly, he died.
The Baton Rouge Police Department reports that the crash happened at roughly 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23. We’re told the driver, Kelvin Jacobs, 48, was driving in the 1000 block of East I-10 west of Essen Lane in a Chevrolet G20 van. For some reason Jacobs left the roadway and crossed a ditch. He then entered the wooded area.
Although the vehicle struck some trees, investigators are unable to determine if Jacobs died as a result of the accident or an unknown underlying factor. An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
Investigators did note that Jacobs was not wearing a seatbelt. They do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
This investigation is ongoing.
