After more than two hours of discussion, the Library Control Board will move forward with plans for a $19 million downtown library.  Over a dozen members of the public spoke at the podium for Wednesday night's Metro Council meeting, both for and against the project.

Five council members placed an item on the agenda urging the Library Control Board to renovate the existing library facility downtown.  That item was voted on and deleted from the agenda, with some members who initially sponsored the item voting against their own item.

Mayor-President Kip Holden spoke in favor of a new library facility and said he's in talks with several technology companies to turn the library into an "urban learning center."

The Library Control Board will now get together with an architect to draw up plans for a new library.
