Denham Springs, La (NBC33) — Not mowing your lawn in Denham Springs could get pricey.
The city council has adopted an ordinance that would find property owners if their lawn got over a foot tall.
According to the ordinance, people who let their lawns grow could be fined up to $500 dollars and possibly even jail time!
People NBC33 spoke with today say law enforcement should worry about other things.
“We should be able to have our lawns the way we want,” said resident Rachael Buteaux. “That's part of our property - we shouldn't have to get fines.”
“Police are wasting their time because that is taxpayer money,” said Blaine Smith. “Where’s the funding coming from? It just makes no sense.”
The ordinance also makes sure grass or weeds don't get onto sidewalks or in the way of pedestrians.
The city clerk tells NBC33 News the $500 fine won't be applied to everyone. It's only for those who refuse to cut their grass.
