DOTD announced today that a temporary traffic signal will be placed at the intersection of LA 1 and Sugar Plantation Parkway.

That will stay in place until a frontage road and J-turn can be constructed later in the year.

Until then, DOTD says they're also beginning a year-long study to figure out the best ways to improve all of LA 1.

That road is just one of the many around the state that's seen an increase in traffic problems as the population of our state continues to grow.

"People should expect and see that we will be looking at ways to enhance traffic flow through a more economical way than just adding additional lanes," Sherri Lebas, Secretary of Transportation for DOTD, said when explaining what they have planned for areas throughout the state. "We need to look at more innovative ways."

Some of those new tactics include roundabouts, as well as the J-turn projects that are currently in the works all over the state.

And in Addis, DOTD is also working with the Sugar Mill subdivision developer to add another exit from the neighborhood.

The goal there is to help reduce traffic by providing an additional exit that does not extend to LA 1.
