Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — More than $41,000 dollars in casino winnings is in the hands of parents raising their children tonight as part of a program by the Department of Children and Family Services.
The program intercepts casino winnings of non-custodial parents, and gets it to people who need that child support money.
More than twenty parents have had their casino winnings rerouted.
Director of Child Support Enforcement, Lisa Andry, said her agency is doing everything they can to get the money where it belongs.
“We are actively engaged in the program,” stated Andry. “Not only do we believe that parents (should) support their children, but we believe they should be involved in their children's lives.”
Andry goes on to say most of the casino winners have been understanding when their money was taken away.
