People living off MacHost Road will soon get some help for what they call a dangerous roadway.

Zachary city leaders and East Baton Rouge Parish officials announced a plan to widen the roadway. Right now the roadway is very narrow and there are no shoulders. It's an area where accidents are all too common.

Zachary Mayor David Amrhein says the project can't move forward just yet because they're still trying to reach buyout agreements with some of the landowners whose property is needed for the project.

"Told me it could be up to a year and that's too unacceptable,” he said. “We need to start this project now. We don't need any kids or even adults getting hurt on this road. This is a high priority and it needs to be done."

Mayor Amrhein expects the project to cost around $2.5 million. He says there will be a meeting for people whose property will be affected by the widening project some time next month.

Go ahead and widen this road. They already drive 60+ with it like it is now. Yes it is a dangerous road when you exceed the speed limit, drive drunk, or text and drive. The reason the city of Zachary is forcing this issue is to relieve traffic on 64 via Machost and Pride Port Hudson. The city is overpopulated and this is one of the ways for them to relieve traffic flow. They need to step up and tell the truth.
