Crime spree suspect has lengthy criminal history
Hammond, La (NBC) — Durelle Jones, 24, of Pontchatoula was arrested today after police said he kidnapped two women from a home in Hammond, drove their vehicle to LaPlace, and raped one of the women along the way.
Police said he left the vehicle and the victims in LaPlace, carjacked another vehicle and headed back to Hammond. The vehicle's OnStar navigation led police to the suspect at a Circle K in Hammond on Morrison. When police confronted the man, he fled, and fired shots at police. Hammond police returned fire, striking him twice. Jones was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Jones has a lengthy criminal history, including arrests for aggravated rape, armed robbery and aggravated battery. He now faces charges of attempted murder of police officers, rape, kidnapping and home invasion.
