A single vehicle fatal crash on I-12 claimed the life of a Covington woman and resulted in moderate injuries to her one-year-old daughter.

The crash took place shortly before 4:00 pm on Sunday aproximately 1.5 miles east of the LA-1088 exit.

Troopers’ investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Kristan Fauntleroy, 24, was traveling eastbound in the left lane of I-12 in a 2003 Ford pickup. For unknown reasons, the Ford pickup drifted into the center grass median, causing Fauntleroy to overcorrect to the right. As Fauntleroy veered to the right, the pickup began to rotate clockwise as it crossed both eastbound lanes and ran off road to the south side of the highway. Upon leaving the paved roadway, the pickup truck overturned and struck a tree before coming to rest on its left side facing a westerly direction.

Fauntleroy received fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office. Fauntleroy’s one-year-old daughter sustained moderate injuries and was air lifted to University Hospital in New Orleans. Both occupants were properly restrained at the time of the crash.

Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash pending the results of a toxicology examination.
