Councilman John Delgado has revealed his latest plans to re-vamp the embattled CATS board, on the heels of another CATS board member’s resignation.

Council members John Delgado and Buddy Amaroso are already working on the next resolution to shake up the CATS leadership.

"We’re looking to make the council more involved in the CATS board and take more responsibility with the taxpayer’s money," said Buddy Amaroso, a metro-council member.

Delgado said his latest resolution proposal is not set in stone, and there is still quite a bit that still needs to be hammered out in order to make it final. His hope is that the Louisiana legislature will be able to hand down a law that would turn the control of the board over to the Metro-Council, thus making the board more accountable to voters in Delgado’s eyes.

"Make the elected officials of the people of Baton Rouge, the metropolitan council, make us directly responsible for cats, as a new cats board," explained Councilman John Delgado.

It’s a solution members of the Together Baton Rouge group are convinced will only prolong the improvement process.

"We’re just convinced at this point it would only prolong the process to essentially start over and that there's enough of a structure and foundation for us to build on."

CATS Interim CEO Bob Mirabito said all he is asks for is a little more time to prove they can get things right.

"The focus is still on making the system better and when we have a new system in place I want people to realize that's a beginning. It is not the end," added Mirabito.

Reverend Rushing added that he feels starting anew with the board would be counter-productive and set it back in its improvement process.

The resolution should appear sometime in the coming months on the metro-council agenda.
