BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The Baton Rouge area chamber says it expects that the city will expand by close to 2 percent in 2013, which is the same total for 2012.
The chamber reports that two main job sectors have been fueling that growth: petro-chemical companies and digital media. One of the reasons those companies are so important to the area is that they bring high-paying jobs that average just shy of $70-thousand a year.
BRAC's president thinks software companies are going to start moving to Baton Rouge in even greater numbers.
"We've seen one to two digital media wins per year,” Adam Knapp said. “We had three last year, and we can expect, I think, to see that rate of landing digital media that want to be here accelerating."
BRAC sees a couple of new industries that are primed to move into the capitol area: engineering design and back-office support.
