A somber ceremony in Louisiana takes place as today marks the sixth anniversary since Hurricane Katrina touched down on the Gulf Coast.

Ceremonies were held today throughout New Orleans’s lower Ninth Ward. Many of the homes there are still untouched since the storm.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu stressed the importance of remembering the victims, but moving the city forward.

“It was a terrible day for a lot of people. A lot of it began here, which you know you can see the great resilience of the people,” said Landrieu. “The city continues to be strong and be a great example for the people of America."
