The Capital Area Transit System is getting $10 million from the federal government as part of the Federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program.

CATS will get $2 million this year and almost $3 million every year for the following three years.

The money will be spent on ten compressed natural gas vans, to fix up the facility on Florida Boulevard and to improve the way CATS gets information out to the public.

"The money definitely helps us out in the areas where we were anticipating”, stated CATS Board President Jared Loftus.

The money is in addition to the millions CATS is getting from a property tax voters in Baton Rouge and Baker approved back in April of last year.
