If you're worried about crime in your area, finding out what happens and where in your community will soon be a lot easier.

The Baton Rouge Police Department will soon be making both crime stats and calls for help available on-line.

They say it's a way for people to really find out what's going on in their neighborhoods and maybe take a proactive role in fighting crime.

"They (residents) can form a neighborhood watch if they feel that crime is going on in their area, and they can be on the lookout,” stated Cpl. L’Jean McKneely with BRPD. “It's just an awareness to let them know what's going on in their community."

The crime stats that are reported won't be the official crime numbers, but officials say it will help give the public a better understanding of what's going on.
