BATON ROUGE, LA — It's a process that requires excellence in law enforcement, and it means your local police force is doing everything it can to keep you safe.
Now, the Baton Rouge Police Department is undergoing its sixth accreditation, and wants you to be a part of that.
The Commission on Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies does an on-site assessment of the police department and holds a community information session.
You're invited to chime in on what you think our police department is doing right, and where it needs improvement. As for the accreditation, we're told only a small percentage of law enforcement agencies ever earn it.
"The Baton Rouge Police Department got involved voluntarily in submitting ourselves through this process first back in 1996,” stated Lt. Don Kelly. “We were one of the first agencies in Louisiana and first in the country to be accredited by this commission.”
The police department must comply with over 400 separate standards and pass a thorough onsite inspection to pass.
The community meeting will be held on June 8 at the Independence Park Rec Center at 6:00 p.m. or you can call in to a telephone hotline that day to share your thoughts.
