BATON ROUGE, La (Mayor's Office) — Mayor-President Melvin L. “Kip” Holden will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Brightside Lane roadway improvements project. It's the 16th completed roadway construction project for the Green Light Plan.
Mayor-President Melvin “Kip” Holden says “A wider roadway with enhanced access for motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists means another major step in the right direction in our efforts to reduce congestion while providing safe and efficient transportation options for our citizens. Like all Green Light projects, the improvements to Brightside Lane directly address an immediate need and strongly adhere to the goal of the Green Light Plan – to help get traffic moving in East Baton Rouge Parish.”
With a construction cost of $7,122,216.80 and an actual completion date of June 21, 2011, the completed Brightside Lane project includes an expanded, three-lane roadway for Brightside Lane from River Road to west of Nicholson Drive, and includes sidewalks and dedicated bike lanes along both sides of the newly-expanded roadway section. The new Brightside Lane also includes new traffic signalization at Alvin Dark Avenue, traffic signal upgrades with new LED lighting, and an enhanced intersection configuration at River Road with new turning lanes on River Road and Brightside Lane.
